Earth | Tree | Sky
Earth | Tree | Sky
Designed as both a fulldome and virtual reality experience, “Earth|Tree|Sky” immerses the viewer in the mystery of a tree in all its domains, from earth to sky.
Viewers are taken on a meditative journey, fully enveloped in the complexity of roots and grasses, branches and leaves. The piece expresses, with reverence and a visual poetry, that a tree belongs to the earth, the land, and the sky, bridging these domains with grandeur and grace.
This piece is 6:15 minutes long and has been screened at fulldome and VR film festivals in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia.

Fulldome Format
Fulldome is the round fisheye projection format required to display over the surface of a dome or a planetarium.
A 210-degree dome extends past the hemisphere, with the screen reaching all the way down to a flat floor. This format places the audience “inside the content,” creating an even more immersive experience. Examples of these domes are the Satosphere in Montreal and the Market Hall Dome in Plymouth, UK.
Earth|Tree|Sky has been rendered for both 180- and 210-degree domes.
360 VR Format
360 VR format is an equirectangular panoramic format which is used to play recorded animation and video in virtual reality. Each frame displays a full spherical image, compared to the fulldome format which displays only a half-sphere.
Earth|Tree|Sky has also been formatted for 360 VR.
Virtual Reality
Earth|Tree|Sky was developed and the experience tuned in virtual reality (VR). In this way I was able to produce both fulldome and 360 VR formats.
As well as developing Earth|Tree|Sky in VR, I also tested it in a virtual reality dome.
